| The Life of Abraham
Lincoln represents a journey from primitive pioneer living to living in the
White House of our United States. The journey starts in 1809, February 12th, to be exact. Abraham was born to Thomas and Nancy (Hanks) Lincoln in a small log cabin near present Hodgenville, Kentucky. The Lincoln Heritage Trail starts there and ends at Springfield, Illinois, where the President would purchase the only home he would ever own. Our students and teachers would like to include Washington D.C. in this journey description, where the president and his family would spend their last years. We will center on the sites in Central Illinois with special mention of our own Shelby County Lincoln connections. We would like to take you on this life journey through a special series of web pages. Included are actual photos by Howard Taylor, and web photos from a variety of sources. Let's start at the beginning and see and read the story of Abraham Lincoln's first years.
