Surviving Andrew's Raiders (The Great Locomotive Chase) were awarded the
first Congressional Medals of Honor. Students will also learn about
19th Century steam locomotives and a myriad of other interesting facts,

12. WJEF Radio broadcasting and writing Activity for

This activity will involve old time Charleston & National
radio history, writing, dramatics, public speaking and even business
management skills. An actual (Old Time) radio station will be planned,
programs produced, advertising sold and spots written, as well as news, sports,
weather and entertainment. All final products will be recorded on
cassette tapes (audio only). This will be a whole group cooperative

many things about fossils, including: geologic timelines, famous examples

CORAL REEFS: BEAUTIFUL WONDERS IN DANGER! |

Students will select one coral reef animal, research and write
a report on it. While doing research, will find a color picture that
may be used to make your "stuffed" coral reef animal out of
paper. We will create a coral reef in our G.E. classroom with all our “puffy
fish” and a beautiful mural background. Special reports will be

A GARDENING PROJECT IN THE ROOM! |

Students will use Internet and book
resources to plan the perfect outside gardent for the yard. Many
concepts and considerations will be researched including: a) soil
profile/nutrients; b) color scheme; c) slope stabilization or erosion
control; d) watering schedule; e) sun/shade needs; f) bloom time; g)
pest control; and h) maintenance. Students will compile lists of
plants and materials necessary to grow them, and will present their gardens
to the class through an illustration and a
