Learning Like Abe:  Read'n, Writ'n and Cipher'n
History On-Line Activity by Howard Taylor

Let's write a POEM
1819, WITH ABE LINCOLN (LEARNING ACTIVITY)
BY HOWARD TAYLOR

Abe loves to write poems.  He would like for you to join in with him and write a poem for his step-mother.  They would then read them to Sarah, as she does know how to read.

1.  Choose a great subject for your poem.  A good theme that about always works is NATURE.  Something more personal such as relationships, your pet, or something to show great respect, love or affection (such as your parents or grandparents) would also work for a subject.

2.  Write your poem in rhyming mode, with every other line rhyming, or, in PROSE, where the poem kind of moves along in a rhythm, and tells a story.

3.  Write your poem in a final form and illustrate it.
